Ceramic tile has become a very popular material to use in the home. It is good for use on many floors of the home, as it is hard-wearing and easy to clean. Although they are very durable, they can still have some problems that, over time, will need to be addressed. What are some of the issues we might encounter?
One of the most common things we see when it comes to ceramic tile is cracking. This can happen if the building expands or contracts too much due to extremes in weather. Incorrect installation could also cause this, as well as various abuse the tile undergoes. If the cracks are too big to simply fill in with a little grout, they will need to be replaced.
Another common issue is the cracking of the grout or discoloration. This can happen if the grout has not been properly sealed, which is likely to absorb moisture. This may be more apparent around tiles areas that see a lot of moisture, such as bathrooms. Grout will need to be removed and redone if it becomes too bad.
Sometimes tiles won’t have been installed properly which will cause them to be uneven. Have a good look at them to see if you notice any unevenness, in this case, you may have to redo them.
As we can see from this brief overview, ceramic tiles do, on occasion need some inspecting, but overall they are a good, durable option.
